July 2010 Meeting Recap

Last night we got together for our July meeting and it was a good one. Here are the highlights:

  • Alexis Juneja from Curbed joined us and led a VERY interesting discussion regarding content creation vs content curation. Some of the great takeaways were:
    • Getting a better understanding of the history of Curbed and how their business works with regard to their staff and how they deploy their resources
    • Defining what exactly curation is with regard to Curbed’s business. Contrary to what one may think, it’s not simple aggregation – it’s giving the content an identity and a distinct voice to make the content useful and sticky.
    • Applying what Curbed does as a consumer-centric portal to the real estate business. Advertising is relivant and geo-specific. This is a major competitive advantage over the general portals out there.
  • We also spoke about the takeaways from Inman Connect last week out in San Fransisco
  • We also spoke about the planning of REBarcamp NYC for January.  Committees are bing put together as we speak so that we can get a jump on things.

Want more details? You’re gonna have to show up! 😛 If you want to attend our next meeting on Wednesday August 11, please follow our Facebook page and keep an eye open for the invite – which is for the second Wednesday of each month.
