Selling is About Improvising – A Lot

Tommy GalanEver been caught on your heels in a presentation or during a business meeting?

One of the big takeaways from BarCamp NYC this month is that people are getting back to basics and a putting their energy into hard skills that produce real results. There are no shortcuts or magic pixie dust that will make you successful. You just have to do the work. It’s hard to work without tools though.

This month we have a Tommy Galan from The Peoples Improv Theater coming in to talk (and teach us a few things) about speaking to clients and thinking on our feet. Tommy has taught hundreds of corporate clients with large scale sales forces the secrets of improv for business. Tommy’s Improv Business Classes entertain and educate clients such as the NBA, Martha Stewart Omnimedia, AMC Networks, Avrett Free Ginsberg, Medallion Retail, Benchmark Hospitality, New York University, Columbia University, Hofstra Law School, and Baruch College.

“What is improv and what does it have to do with me?” This is a questions most people ask when entering Tommy Galan’s workshops and programs. However, by the end, the lightbulbs are lit, the connections are made, and the participants view their world through a different lens. Tommy is a performer, speaker, business owner and attorney who cross-trains his students on the skills of improv that overlap into our business, professional and personal lives. Communication, listening, presentation skills, focus, dealing with pressure, productivity, and “Yes, and…” (acceptance and adding) while living in the moment are just a few of the improv skills that cross over into other areas of life. In Tommy’s class you will learn the exercises that improvisers use to strengthen these muscles in a fun, engaging, and supportive program.
